Overeating? Can’t sleep? How’s your sex life? Do you know what to do about this stuff? Certain things bother many people, and so they are accepted as a normal until they lethargically pass. Thus, most have not noticed that food, sex and sleep is one system…your 2nd Chakra energy system. When one of these aspects […]
It’s been a very inspiring and transformational month for me here is Bali, as I have been so fortunate to get a taste of Balinese culture through the magic of sacred music and dance. Since the last blog post where the cutest girl inspired me to try Balinese Dance for the first time, I’ve been looking high and low for Balinese Dance Teachers here in Bali. Strangely enough, they are difficult to come across…until now!
I’m not sure where to start to catch up all my friends and family, so I’ll begin with what has been bringing me the most excitement.
Check out the video below first! I love this music!!! There is so much more depth in this video than one can see with a naked eye, so make sure you continue reading to learn the true spiritual beauty of balance and beat that is “behind the scenes,” and maybe feel a few goose bumps run all over your body as you read, which is what happened to me.
What you just saw in the video above is Gamelan Cudamani, some of the most well known and sought after musicians and dancers in Bali. You can study with them in Bali like I am doing, or you can find them in San Francisco.
This rare video is Cudamani entertaining us while we took a break from dancing one day. The gentleman in the middle is Pak Dewa Putu Berata his son is right behind him, and his daughter is in the back left corner. Both his children are INCREDIBLE musicians and dancers, and he such a one-of-a-kind superstar teacher, leader, director and composer.
His niece is also behind him, nephews, cousins all around…and they are all my teachers!!! His wife is the associate director of Cudamani, Emiko Saraswati. She is a whole other phenomena! A true feminine leader, captivating dancer, musician and singer, and stands as beautiful role model for all women without knowing it, especially for all the young girls in this village. I feel she is the backbone and glue that bridges all this Balinese creativity, culture and interaction together, from east to west, or in this case, west to east.
This beautiful family just makes my heart burst! Anytime in the day, you can walk throughout their open home and find musicians on one stage breaking down sacred beats for over 8 hours a day, the cutest young tiny little girls on another stage with one of the moms helping them perfect a sacred dance, the older girls on another stage with one of the grandmas like Ebu Arini, who is responsible for training almost every dancer on this island. As a true living legend at age of 76, she taught sensual dance at the Bali Spirit Festival 2 years ago, and I just cannot believe I had the blessed chance to be her student, and be touched by her kindness and spirit.
Tell me this isn’t a dream environment!?!?
If you feel like I feel, I totally got your back! We are working on bringing you here next summer for a Tantra Yoga and Sacred Music and Dance Retreat!!
So let’s go ahead and go deeper behind the scenes of the video above, and share a little bit about what makes Balinese music composition, and life for that matter, unique in a way that embodies the true essence of spiritual balance and beauty.

Right before a blessed run in with this little girl, my friends and I decided to go to a near by surf town here in Bali. On the way there, my buddy’s girlfriend got in motorcycle accident. Thankfully she was only a little bit scratched up, but much her beauty from within was released into free tears from all the adenine.
We sat across the street from a shop where there was a Balinese family and many little kids hanging out, as she continued to cry. I cross the street and start smiling at the kids building a heart rapport, and after making eye contact with the parents I notice the immense sweetness of the family. They ask me if my friend is crying and if she’s okay. I put them at ease; she’s in good hands as her boyfriend is Scotty Ze, The Earth Leadership Adventurer.
I go in front of the kids and start clapping my hands asking them if they know a song so we can go sing to my friend to help her smile. They have no response or specific expression, I’m not sure if they understood what I was trying to convey.
So I backtrack, walk away and start looking around in the store. Then this little girl, Dea, popped out of know where and started dancing! Balinese style dancing of course – all the kids here are taught this in school.
I couldn’t believe this little girl. She was magnificent! When she finished, I asked her to show me.
Hence this video of my first time trying Balinese dance!!!
Many of you tell me that you try to do yoga at home but don’t really know where to start or where to end. I practice yoga at home everyday, and today I thought, “Why don’t I share this!?!?” So here it is…a 4 min yoga practice you can enjoy anywhere, anytime! This is how […]
Three years ago today exactly, was the last day of my corporate career. Most called me courageous, other’s crazy, as I watched their brain slip into the gutter of fear and hopelessness trying to figure out the age old question, “What are you going to do about health insurance?” I knew they wouldn’t understand my answer, “Quit my job.”
Truth #1. Don’t Let Perceived Popular Notion Stop You
It saddened me to hear my coworkers, who were in their 60s or more, who were retired government employees and now worked as civil employees say, “If it wasn’t for the high cost of insurance, I wouldn’t be working right now.”
Months later I discover that for all 3 doctor appointments, at the same doctors, I ended up paying less without insurance. When I asked why, “Because the system jacks up the price when you have insurance.”
Since I am one of the very few teachers that teach the Moon Salutation, allow me to share with you exactly why it is what you need today, and what the world needs you to do today.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the subject…
Really…I’m flattered and inspired by you! The most fascinating, beautiful, highly intelligent people of all ages and experience levels are coming to Hip Hop Tantra Yoga™ regularly, and are loving it.
It has been one month since the first Hip Hop Tantra Yoga™ class and the response and feedback has been very positive, energizing and forward-thinking.
“This is what I go to other yoga classes to get and never get.” – a Dancer
“My best and most productive days are Saturdays, the day after class.” – a Musician
“Thanks to this class I have the courage to get rid of what I don’t need in my life.” – a Mom
What you don’t know is that this class combines Yoga Practice and Yoga Theory. All in the span of 1.5 hours the students enjoy Dancing, Power Yoga, Tantra Yoga and a Tantra Yoga Philosophy Lecture where I provide the students with a handout to take home that translates this ancient sacred wisdom into everyday life.
Hip Hop Tantra Yoga™ is the integration and expression of all my love, so the fact that the room is packed every Friday night makes me feel like I can give more. So I did!
On Friday, May 6th I woke up with a strange sensation of steady calmness. “Should’t I be nervous,” I though. After 2 months of non-stop effortless constant action, and 2 years of working through blocks to figure out how to let myself go, my cherry popped…and just like the first time, it felt completely natural. Only this time, there were a lot more people involved.
18 fun people showed up to The First Ever Hip Hop Tantra Yoga™ class at Culture Shock Dance Studio to fill the room at Maximum Capacity! 13 of them fearlessly tried yoga for the first time.
I had a joyous time teaching musicians, students, holistic professionals, physics teachers, make-up artists, dancers, navy personnel, parents, siblings, and more, how to move their body in new ways while stretching, strengthening and harnessing universal energy.
One piece of feedback I heard repeatedly was regarding how the energy in the room felt so good – positive and open. Everyone felt invited and accepted, “Like they walked in a room full of friends.”
Here is more about what they had to say.
“Amazing class…genius concept…I felt alive and sexy.”
Julie H. – Talent Recruiter/Manager
Everyday when I meet someone and tell them that my expertise is in Tantra Yoga, the response is, “Is that like sex?” At that moment I feel empowered and disempowered all at the same time, “Where do I start?” I think to myself when the easy answer is just, “Yes.”
Instead of giving an easy answer, I now offer an intelligent question. Let’s try that scenario again. “Is that like sex?” My answer, “Maybe. It depends. What is sex to you?
So lets get outside mainstream perceptions of Tantra and see it from the enlarged perspective it demands and deserves. Why? Because I guarantee…
